Hello,
I am travelling, and a couple of dayss ago I lost my camera (a Smena 8M, so no biggie). Now I have a week in NYC and want to buy another for the rest of the trip. Perhaps someone from NYC could recommend where I can pick up a cheap point and shoot or something, just to get me through the week.
Thanks!
Erik

Adorama and B&H are both in New York. I've never been but I buy stuff from Adorama all the time and occasionally from B&H.

You are Swedish. You owe it to yourself and your country to buy a Hasselblad. This is your best chance!

I would look up charity/thrift stores.
(Do Adorama and B&H have rummage boxes with cheap compacts?)

Do druggies still steal cameras? If so, you could spend a little time in one of the spaces that now block streets that have been installed by mayors Bloomberg and deBlasio bot the convenience of dealers to conduct their business.
B&H is a good choice but most of their used equipment is of very good quality. Yes, you should buy a Hasselblad!

Thanks everyone! There are actually a few thrift stores close to my airbnb, so I’ll check them out, and I’ll keep an eye on this craigslist thing. If I buy the lomo I could probably resell it in Sweden...
Hasselblad is nice of course, but would not fit in ny little bag!

You'll probably find what you seek in one of the thrift stores. Report back on your finds

From a first hand visit, B and H will not have any new or used 35 mm film cameras unless you want to spend thousands (new). They may have 1 or 2 used medium format cameras for under a thousand.

They claim there aren't any high quality used 35 mm cameras out there which they can support. And previous few medium formats.

The thrift stores offered a very rusty Kiev rangefinder and a couple of ”focus free” point and shoots that looked very sad. But it was fun to go there, so thanks!
