Anybody got suggestions for a dev for TMax100 10x8 sheet film. Have been using Rodinal but.......... Am now using HC110B!

Good Morning, Yerbury,

You should be able to get perfectly acceptable results using HC-110B. When the T-Max films were first introduced, they were typically processed in either D-76 or HC-110B. When T-Max Developer became available, I switched to it (1:7 for 10 minutes, continuous agitation) and recommend it as a first choice, but I would not be unduly disturbed if I had to revert to using HC-110B. HC-110 does have the advantage of lower cost.

There is a section for tray processing. You might prefer using twice the B dilution ( 1+ 63 from concentrate, USA version of HC-110 ) at ( typically ) double the B development time.

XTOL is a wonderful choice, Ilford DDX will also be splendid.

I like divided D-23 - the high sodium sulfite really gets the red out. It also seems to be less finiky as to temperature, which is a problem where I live.

Kodak has maintained a complete data bank on their website,
of all their refernce material,
including some long discontinued products.

All we have to do is LOOK.

The day Fuji or Ilford approaches Kodak's quality of documentation is
one I look forward to, but never expect to see.

As for actually talking to somebody at Kodak for help,
that's a different matter.

You have use a telephone.

In my experience tray and tube developing 8x10 Kodak TMAX (both 400 and 100), I prefer Pyrocat-HD and Pyrocat P (Sandy King's p-aminophenol version).

Of the current Kodak developers, I prefer XTOL.

You will like HC110 just fine, until you try D76.

Do the same shot and process one neg in each and see what I mean.

D76 is listed as a primary recommendation on the Kodak site. HC110 is not.

Depends on what you are after. Both HC-110 and D-76 are non-staining developers that produce very similar results with the TMAX films, but HC-110 is amenable to high levels of dilution and minimal agitation techniques (Stand & Semi-Stand) whereas D76 is not. In addition the HC110 Concentrate (Syrup) is very stable and has a shelf life of years.

In terms of fine grain and image acutance, XTOL is the best of the current Kodak Developers (according to the Kodak webste).

If minimum agitation development techniques are important to you, either HC110 or Rodinal are good choices - but the best choice for minimum agitation development at high dilutions is Pyrocat-HD, P or M. Of course, Pyrocat is also a high acutance developer that proportionally stains and tans as well (and it also works very well as a continuous agitation developer) in Jobos, etc.
