TLR Focusing Technique/Tips

Like @Cholentpot, I also "jam my face right into the viewfinder with my eyeball in the magnifier. It's undignified..." so much so that the subjects (normal folks, not professional models) are totally amused and relaxed. And those environmental portraits are the on average better than those taken with eye level finders.

I do find that longer lenses on the Mamiya systems are really hard to nail focus with though.

And yes, people find TLRs disarming and amusing. They're the cuddly cameras of the photography world.

I like to use a cable release with my Mamiya C330 and Rolleicord. If handheld, I use a neck strap and pull the strap taught with one hand and release the cable with the other hand. I get camera shake easily without the above technique.
