Tips on photographing a christening?

I have been ask to take photos of a christening but I honestly don't know much at all about photography and I dont wanna muck this up, I have a nikon D3200 and want to train to be a photography, the parents know I don't know much at all yet and their still giving me the chance to do it, I can take some good shoots sometimes but it's tomorrow, please help

While this is not the website to get answers for digital questions, www.DPUG.org is the place for that, I can only recommend that you do not immerse the camera in water during the christening.

what sort of lens do you have ?
it is possible to be not up close and personal
( use longish lens ) ...
and make photographs at an event like this.
i am not familiar with your specific camera, but
i am guessing you can put the hi iso ( film ) in it
and if you need fill flash you can use the flash that either came
on the camera or a speed light.
don't forget bright lights aren't good for the baby's eyes

Strobes are too bright for new born's eyes. There have been many threads on APUG on this subject, but the bottom line is not to use strobes or flash until the child is six months old according to pediatricians and OB/GYNs. The vetted medical journals back this up. John thank you for bringing this up, I forgot to mention it.

You need to ask the person officiating what s/he will permit or not permit. A flash might be a no-no. If you don't get what you want/need you might think about staging a photo after the services when presumably the rules would be relaxed somewhat. Good luck
