As we all know, a good fitting dust filtering respirator is an absolute MUST when sanding.

Having said that, make sure you take off the respirator before you sneeze...

Yup, happened to me today. I had to take the whole, disgusting mess apart and give it a bath in the sink.

On a brighter note, my mask is now sparkling clean and has new filters!

Hey Bob,

nice story...

My kids were recently sick with a lung infection. After a particularly nasty sneeze in the doctor's office, my wife was about to clean up when the doctor yelled, "I want that!". Well, to each his own.

I am working on a plan for a much simpler front mount Packard Shutter arrangement. I think I can make it work with 1 board, some black nylon cloth and a surplus laser mount. Should fit any big barreled lens.

In the process, I found the cheapest and laziest front mount Packard system. I was preparing to sell my Series II Velostigmat and an unrelated Packard. I thought, this is about the right size for the lens. Turns out it is a great press-fit. Yep, the Packard just slips on the front with enough friction to hold it in place.

Those of us without talent have to depend on luck.

"Do I have to fumigate it when it gets here?" Suzanne - Nope, just figure it was the first coat of noseoil for the finish, a time saver.

Bob, great tip. Maybe that is what I did wrong for some 20+ years. Might have saved me the two sinus surgeries. Best, tim

P.S. Another good tip about using tape, sticky side down!

Nah, the nasty stuff stayed in the mask!

Seriously though, I wouldn't have had to sand it (again) had I not grabbed the wrong can of spray paint. I went to put a second coat of flat black on the front and grabbed a can of purple. Of course, I didn't notice until it was too late. BTW - Purple + Speed Graphic does NOT equal a good thing!

If you were using a monopod you could refer to it as being "a one eyed, one legged, purple people eater".

I know don't give up the day job.

If you think sneezing into dust mask is bad, try a motorcycle helmet in the middle of a race on a race track, don't ask how I know.

My wife did the "Nasel Mt. Vesuvius" into a full face motorcycle helmet once. From what she tells me (I wasn't there), it wasn't a pretty sight...
