OK, so maybe I am stuck at this damn computer for another hour, so I might as well use the time productivly.

Is it insane of me to think that I can get a good enlarger-darkroom timer for less than $65.00? I have been bidding at eBay for the last month or two and have thus far been unsucessful. Big surprise right?! My question is this I guess, is there a decent timer out there for around $65? In other words if all you had to spend was $65 what timer would you get?

Well, where the heck have you been looking on e bay? I got me one last month to do film testing with a light bulb (the zone VI is already packed) and got a Kearsarge 301 in like new condition for $25. Just do a global search in e bay for Gralab and/or Kearsarge and see what comes up, there is bound to be one available for you.

I'd say get a repeating timer for enlarging, and clock type (gralab 300) for processing. Should be able to get both for around $65, not incl. shipping. I have a Saunders/LPL et200 for sale of $40. pm if interested.

Thank you. I was avoiding the GraLab, I was under the impression they were subpar, but I guess not.

Well, IMO the Gralab 300 is overpriced at $30, look more for a digital one for enlargring, if that is what you want. The 300 is a good process timer, but not a good enlarging timer.

I know what you mean Stephen. I'll watch them sell for dirt for months and then as soon as I place a bid, the bidding goes through the stratosphere, some joker gets it for three times it's actual value and I'm left empty handed yet again. I swear it's an organized plot to keep me from getting a bargain on Ebay.

I was just posting examples, I have used both Gralab and Time-O-light for the last 20 years with not a problem, but if you look there are quite a few on Ebay and for the price range you in, you should have no problems at all..

Thank you all for the help. I bid on a GraLab 450 that is up in a day and I can use a kitchen timer for processing so hopefully one of these days I will have a functioning darkroom.

Stephen,

If you will pay for the postage I will ship you a used Gralab 450 for free.

I have the Stopclock timer from RH Designs and it is expensive as hell, but a great timer.

I got my Time-o-lite M-59 for $5 on ebay. Just needed a little tinkering to rezero it and it was good to go. Can't complain about that price, especially since a shop wanted to sell me a used one for $85 earlier in the day before I went to eBay.

Last year when I was ebaying for my darkroom I experienced the same thing. I knew I wanted a digital timer for the enlarger and I wanted to spend around the same amount. So close so many times to watch it balloon over. But eventually I got mine. Just have patience. I ended up with a Kearsarge 201. It's great!
