I have been searching everywhere for an 'affordable' copy and it looks like it isn't going to happen. I saw the previous high was 899.00! Crazy prices people are asking!

I just wanted to post this in case anyone is keeping a running tab. Jeesh!

Keeping fingers crossed for a new reprint.

Nothing specific. I want the book. I have all of his others and they are great learning tools. Teaching myself how to tone mainly by studying other masters since I don't have the book. He does have a toning section in his Master Lith book I have studied. At this point I am curious about bleaching back to mid-tones and what %.

I'm sure it's a nice book, but no book on earth is worth that sort of coin. I cannot believe that you couldn't get information that is "good enough' somewhere else. Having worked in the art field for 4 decades, I can tell you that everything you would ever need to know about intaglio etching, fresco painting, photogravure, lithography, etc can be learned by buying some equipment and figuring it out yourself. I do not believe that toning is any different. I'm sure there are others that could show you what you need to know for a LOT less than that.

crazy indeed but, it does nit mean that these prices are achieved. I saw a used copy of Way beyond Monochrome offered on ebay for $1100.
anyway,Tim announced awhile back that he struck a deal with a printer for a reprint for the regular cover price. send a note to Tim and ask for details, while I put my copies into a vault.

Well,the Gutenberg bible sells for more;no comparison;I understand but,one man's toning book is another man's bible
the most I ever paid for a book was $600and I have no regretsabout that one.

I will of course, teach myself. But the the masters have knowledge and tips I would love to know. I took intaglio and lithography in college and have no interest in those mediums.

I'd be willing to pay upwards of 75-100$ for it, but I can't spend 150$

In the meantime, I am going to start looking for workshops!

There are some crazy pricing algorithms at work--books generally don't sell for these insane prices. If you keep checking, one will turn up at a reasonable price. Have you emailed Tim to see if there's going to be another printing? If not, it would be nice if he released it as a PDF. You might also try a WTB ad here and on the LFF.

This reprint seems to be sold out. Glad I bought my copy 2011 during a London visit.

BTW, €160 at Amazon Germany marketplace from a New York dealer.

Utterly wacko. That's a lot of money for learning about working with certain papers you can now no longer get. Things change in this respect.
That kind of money with buy you a lot of current paper to experiment with.

I just glanced thru my copy and I don't see any specific papers mentioned. So I would think its less dated than his Lith books.
Tim does put out an occasional newsletter which may be of benefit.

My secret weapon for finding obscure books is addall.com. But the best they offer is $106 delivered from the UK to the US. From a US source it is $174. That's for the 202 printing. Since it is a UK originated book, I suppose that is not too surprising.

I used to get most of my photographic books from the Photographer's Gallery (when they were still at Gt. Newport St.) and various places up Charing Cross Road until I got to Foyles. Now I have to go to San Francisco for a decent selection.

Heck. For $1900 you could probably hire a counterfeiter and sell a whole stack of em. You'd make more than by faking twenty dollar bills.
Tim should simply publish a revised edition, with supplemental notes about current papers. He wouldn't have to redo all the sample images,
cause the chemicals involved would remain analogous. Kinda reminds me of how aspiring darkroom workers try to read AA's classic how-to
books as if they are divinely inspired, and think they have to own Super-XX film, a K1 Wratten filter, Seagull G, and a cowboy hat and beard
before they can learn the Zone System.
