Before I get out the bigger hammer, does anybody know whether the head of a Tiltall (E. Leitz version, from '80s) is "easily" separated from the centre column? And, if so, what remains behind (a 3/8" stud, in a perfect world, but since it's the end of May and it's snowing in Vancouver, I am reminded anew it's not)

I am aware the column is easily replaced by a suitably sized Gitzo column, but before I go that route I thought I'd see if there is a simpler alternative.

(reason... want to try an Acratech head on these great legs.)

End of May?.....My God! how long was I asleep?

Not you, me.

Sorry, wishful thinking - I'm off to the UK for a couple of weeks at that point - expecting better weather too. (talked to my daughter in Honolulu last night, she was saying how fine the weather was there...)

I only go there to look at my "favorite posters" list. Noah Schwartz often has useful information.

I have always had my acratech on the tiltall head. Regards Bill[/QUOTE said:
Also confused... you mean two heads on the same tripod at the same time; the ball head atop the Tiltall's two-way pan/tilt head???

2 heads are better than one???

I have a standard leitz tiltall and a short version form the late 70's? or early 80's. The short version head unscrews and leaves a 1/4-16 stud. The other does not.

I only have the center colum of a tiltall that a friend gave me. It did not have any of the handles to tighten the head. I bought some wing-nuts that fit the head and I have never been heaver. Makes a rock-solid monopod.
