Two questions-
1. How would you suggest tightening a lenscap so that it stays on? I purchased a Summarit cap, but it is VERY loose. I would not want to lose it. Considered putting some electrical tape around the inside rim.

2. When a lens has a dent and it is no longer round, is it possible to fix it, and if so, how?

Thanks!

Is this a "over the edge" cap, or an "inside the lip" cap with teeth that spring outward to keep it in place?

I would guess it is an over the edge cap as it has no springs and just some felt on the inside... I put a bit of electrical tape and that's holding it tighter, but if there is a more appealing method I'm all ears.

Still interested in straightening the lens too!

I can't speak about the lens problem. To me that's a major problem but I don't do that kind of repairs. For the lens cap I did have a fix but only for the inner-ring spring type. I would say if it's that much of an annoyance, get a new lens cap.

I had one that was not the right size, and it was also an over-the-top type. It was too large. It really irked me. I tried tape. The tape wore off. The cap wouldn't stay. It wasn't doing its job. So I bought a proper-sized one (an inside-spring one) and am much happier. Only cost about $3 USD.

Thanks for the suggestions. The dent is on a Jupiter 8 which still produces a very nice image albeit the thread is a problem. Even though it's a good example, I doubt it would be worth any repair costs.
I'll see how long this tape lasts. Summarit caps are pretty pricey and I luckily found one at KEH for a more reasonable price than elsewhere. Unfortunately it is an unusual thread size and harder to find than some others. I'm by no means a collector unless I get something I need at a reasonable price and it happens to have a box or something, but the Leica lens cap is quite sharp on an M3. Thank you for the insight!
