I'm currently in TEDA-Tainjin about an hour southeast of Beijing.
Does anyone out there know of any photography stores or clubs in the area?

Bob - please contact me via email (colin dot corneau at gee male) - I have a good friend in Beijing right now. Excellent fella, dedicated Leica/film shooter and there's a nice little community there. I think it could be helpful for you.
 
and if you can't find a camera store, console yourself at some of the amazing seafood restaurants there
 
Yes, amazing fish restaurants , if you cant speak chinese, beware of them , they can bring you a ocean rare fish and request 1500 dollars. Its a tourist trap.
