Here Tri-X is at 1.5x the price of HP5 and at 1.3x the price of Delta 400

I just checked one Canadian store that sells all that and that price ratio is pretty much the same.

I'm not going to check all of them. The prices are a bit variable.

Funny, I thought that on several points I was simply using a "what if" comment and not asserting anything and indeed even came close to agreeing with what Matt and Sal said. Clearly the whole business of EK's history, its boom to bust, subsequent bankruptcy and the establishment of KA and indeed anything else that would appear to have anything to do with EK/KA and what it/they do is the equivalent of a wasps' nest that should not be examined even carefully let alone "poked" lest it renders a reaction.

I fear we are getting close to exhausting this thread as an open discussion which doesn't involve those with questions or alternative views being seen as the sort of people whose main delight is simply and solely deliberately pressing an open sore with the express objective of creating pain and annoyance of those who may take a much more supportive role in what EK/KA do

What a pity

Passions ignite, I suppose. To me it still feels like a bit of a rose-coloured glasses-thing. So many industries that were in place to make film and develop it just don't exist anymore, and so many ecological standards have cropped up since. The fact that they have been able to release anything quickly, in a way that made sense for the low volumes they now have seems quite astonishing to me. How many more motion pictures have to be made with EK film to bankroll the still-film division?

Sorry, but you really only seem like a windbag. There's not really any need to respond to anything particular you say because you haven't said anything worthwhile. A fart has more significance.

I wish folks would consider what discussions like these might look like to new/casual readers to the forum. If this topic was the Welcome poster of Photrio, you'd get no new members signing up - they'd think this is a group of sour, argumentative curmudgeons who spend zero time actually making photographs and instead, they come here to b*tch about how they don't like their changing world, and sh*tting on each other's opinions. At times like this, the atmosphere here makes me think Old Man Yells At Cloud.

Is that what you want to present to potential new blood?? This is why I have declined to pay for membership here; the drone of anger hums persistently in the background of most days content.

When I worked for an NYC governmental agency twenty years ago, emails and arguments because of them got so bad, so vitriolic, they had a trainer come in to give everyone a course on how best to handle emails and communications. Things like: make a brief phone call rather than send an email where others are drawn in and there's a greater chance for misunderstanding and people wanting to cover their a$$es. And don;t Reply to All but reply only to the person who originated the email. Don't involve others who then think they have to say something, which also wastes a lot of time as hundreds of emails are created everyone has to read who don;t need too. There were all sorts of tips like that.

I'll apologize for saying what I said.

I'll leave it at that.

Just the facts!
Come on, George, nothing you've ever posted about digital photography bears any relationship to "facts." ...
A totally lame response, and you know it!
Lame, George, is a word that describes the utter nonsense posted at PHOTRIO by those who proclaim chemical photography superior to digital photography. Such baseless allegations mark their promoters as the truly lame, and you know it.
...you're also trying to put words there. I never claimed there is no such tipping point. Only that neither you, I nor other PHOTRIO members have any idea what it is...
By declaring a 20% price hike "dangerous" you imply knowledge of how close Kodak is coming to the tipping point.

None of this even touches on the possibility that Kodak films, like Leicas, Maseratis, etc., could become Veblen goods.
I'll apologize for saying what I said.

I'll leave it at that.
Apology accepted.

Neither Don (to my knowledge) nor I are posting anonymously.

I wasn't directing my comments to you or anyone in particular, only the web in general. Additionally, anonymity means more than knowing a name. Not relating with people in person creates anonymity of sorts and certainly a distance allowing us to stray from friendly and decent behavior. I'm guilty of it at times as well. It's easier to check emotions when near.

Well, you wouldn't find someone telling me I was talking out of my ass to my face. Let's say I'd have a much worse response to something like that in person than I have on here.

You shouldn’t. The windbag(s) should. Unfortunate the wrong person was targeted.

I'm apologizing to everyone else, actually.

Danger is vague, really. It's likely that even they don't even know when that tipping point will occur. Perhaps the most dangerous thing they've done is establish their price hikes as a trend, since the price increase has been very regular. Then maybe danger is maybe letting people think they should expect to pay an additional 20% next year, then the year after.

But everything here is speculation. There are no hard equivalences. I know how much business I would lose if I raised my quotes by 20% in my work. I'd lose it all.

Of course, you have no facts to back up your trollish claims!

Jeez Louise… after all of that hugging I though this thread would either conclude or get nice.

NOBODY HAS FACTS HERE… JUST SPECULATION BASED ON THEIR VARIOUS EXPERIENCES!

I was going to try to edit all the arguments and accusations here, but closing the thread makes much more sense.
Note to self: when a thread is about upcoming price changes which are not well specified as to markets, shut the thread down earlier rather than later, and wait until the change (if any) is determined.
