I currently have a Minolta Dual Scan II that was given to me for free. It works pretty decently for my 35mm scans. I am wondering though what options are out there to scan both 35mm and 120? (if it matters to be specific 6x6 and in the future 645.)

Not 100% sure if I will upgrade to a new scanner anytime soon as I am a broke student, but am looking at different options. Hopefully also any scanner recommendations can scan faster than the current scanner I have. Very slow :pouty:

If your willing to take a chance with used equipment then the Microtek 1800f, Epson 4990 or 4870 will scan 120 and larger.

I have a 4990 and as long as my negatives are not too dense or too grainy then I can get quite good results. Plenty sufficient for say 11 x 14 prints, maybe bigger, but I have not tried. I get a lot of grain aliasing if the negative are really grainy which I don't like.

If your a broke student, then find out if the photography department has a scanner and figure out a way to get access.

I was thinking exactly that as well. I know we have some kind of large Epson flatbed and Coolpix, will check it out in the morning. I do know if I want to use them all I need to do is go into the computer lab and use them.

Thanks for the reply, and I'll look into those as options as well for personal use.

Epson flatbed do OK on 645 and 6x6 ... certainly good enough for about 10inch wide. After that I really suggest better scanners (or bigger negatives ;-)
