Hey Folks,

About 19 years now I participated in Round 2 & 3 of the travelling camera project.

I was the final recipient of the round 2 camera and it’s great to see that those images are still up and available on Photrio.

That camera was sent off on a return trip (Round 3) back in 2005, and unfortunately it appeared to get lost somewhere between Australia and the UK (on its way to the second person - which is either fortunate or unfortunate depending on how you look at it).

There have been.a number of rounds since then, and it looks like round 10 is making a world time record for completion, but hey I’m an optimist.

Obviously things have changed a lot since the early 2000’s both in terms of tech and also in terms of postal and aviation security which makes a project like this more challenging, however, even keeping those changes in mind, I think the concept can still survive albeit with some changes to the transit processes.

As an example, I think for simple a travelling camera we can have a hard border restriction, for example a camera which would be limited to geographic borders of the continental US, or Australia//New Zealand. We would utilise ground postal services similar to those used for delivery of devices containing LiPo batteries.

I also think we would need to limit the number of participants for each camera to perhaps 6 at the most, so that the camera can make its loop within a reasonable period of time.

If there are any who would be interested in participating in another round based on these limitations, put up your hands and I’ll get to work putting a camera trip together.

I just perused the older threads about these exchanges. Seeing all the potential trials and tribulations; opportunities for conspiracy theories about aliens taking the camera; and high likelihood of frustration and heartache, I'd be very interested in participating. Sounds like quite an experience!😬
