I have a Thomas duplex safelight, without a manual, so I need some feedback on mounting distance from a drywall celling or if it can be safely sat on top a bookcase on a stone tile or slab as a insulator?

I also would like a copy of the manual so if you have a link to the maker or other source of a PDF, I'd like to have that as well.

Cheers

The case doesn't get hot. You can put it on a bookshelf directly, which I've done in the past. I currently have it hanging from hooks in a drywall ceiling with toggle bolts. It's a foot from the ceiling, but how far you put it should depend on how diffuse you want the light and how high the ceiling is.

I've also got the louvers closed, because I'm not in a huge space, and I've got an 8 foot ceiling, and it's still plenty bright.

Thanks for the quick responses, all of it is helpful.

My dark room is fairly small also and while I'm very happy to have this lighting option, some darkrooms I worked in, in the past, all had this type light mounted to high ceilings in fairly large rooms, which did not bear close examination.

I'm trying to avoid hanging it for now as I want to mount a large mat cutter to the wall where the light would best hang, and I don't want it potentially interfering with that space.

Cheers

Just be sure to do a proper fogging test. On mine, with all filters in and the doors closed, I still had to cover two thirds of the side closest to the enlarger to prevent fogging during normal exposure/burning times.
