Hi all,

I've seen various kinds of fungus, separation and loads of dust inside lenses, but I haven't seen that before:

APO-RodagonN_80f4.jpg

Admittedly, this mobile phone picture is not really sharp, but you can see here an otherwise great condition Rodenstock 80mm enlarger lens, with small, whiteish, crystal-like particles at the edge of one of the inner front elements. The diameter of the respective lens is around 20mm. The particles are unevenly distributed along the lens circumference, concentrated in two major areas. Particle / crystal orientation appears erratic, the particles won't move if tilting or shaking the lens. They do not really extend onto the glass either and show glittering reflections if properly illuminated.

I had the chance to buy this lens but didn't, so I can't take any further close look.

Any ideas?!

Cheers,
r.

I have a couple of enlarger lenses that were given to me. They both have that same look.
Showed them to a friend at a local camera store, he said that is lens separation and it is not
uncommon with German enlarger lenses. One is a Schneider Kreutznak and the other is a
Calumet Componon. FWIW.

Schneideritis?

The glass itself looks fine in the photo unless I'm missing something you're seeing. L
