These prices....

So a couple Mondays ago, I was out working on a class project and saw these cameras for sale at a law office (I think).
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

The Polaroid camera has no value. There is no film available for it anymore and no one collects them.

The K1000 and 50mm lens are worth about $60 total. The flash is worth nothing, and the zoom lens looks like an off-brand lens, in which case it is also worth nothing.

I have 3 Polaroid land cameras for usually around $15 each, thousands out there, they can be converted to take 120 roll film or sheet film without too much trouble.
Don't know what you would use the Pentax for, maybe a garden ornament.

I do agree it's about 2-3X over priced. Given they are at a lawyers office, what would you expect?

It's a double-edged sword; people who see a rising interest in any activity, search their old personal possessions and see gold where there only may be brass. While we have to endure outrageous expectations of value for a while, it tend to bring the hidden items out into the open.

A small portion of this equipment will sell to the equally clueless or impatient at drastically inflated prices, but the bulk of it will eventually be made available at market value.

Kino is correct. A rising market will get people to search their closets and try to sell their formerly forgotten "junk.". Most of it is junk, but some gems will show up. That was one great benefit of eBay: it let ordinary people sell things directly to customers without the burden of an intermediary.

If it was at a lawyer's office, there is a good chance that it is from an estate.
Have you ever sold anything for a bunch of beneficiaries?
A couple of years ago I sold a K1000 on Craigslist for about 1/2 that (in CDN $). Standard lens only, and no flash. Craigslist prices on them have gone up since then.
I'll agree that the Polaroid cameras are priced too high, and that the K1000 can be obtained for less if one is knowledgeable.

Camera collecting may become increasingly popular as people realize that such mechanical marvels will never again be made and specialize in having full sets of all sizes and nationalities, just like stamp collectors. Currently the Financial Times has special collector supplements for all kinds of art. When galleries start exhibiting early Practicas and Nikons in glass cases and auction prices start to become known the markets will develop.

I wouldnt be surprised if someone did convert it. They are very light, versatile and plenty of them around, wont be long before someone starts selling converted land cameras.

Millions of 35mm cameras out there, no real great need to spend more than $25 on one, friends and relatives will give them away. People go around to yard sales and charity stores pay a few dollars for them and try and flip them on one of the internet markets. The last Pentax SLR I bought cost $12 with a lens and carry bag, it was a less desirable late model, with silly stuff like multi point focusing and metering, why would any one want that?. I have lots of 35mm cameras ranging in price from free to $500, so far I havent found any significant difference in picture quality between those that function well. A good lens is important especially if you wish to print with 35mm, camera is less important.

I don't know of any bolt on attachment being made, but you can do anything you put your mind to. I fitted the 612 back from a Holga pinhole and a 90mm super angulon lens to the front. It works well, but is a bit big as I had to make it so it won't fold. If you use a 120mm lens then you could probably just use the existing bellow length. You would need a battery to use the existing lens, but that should be possible. Can't see why you couldn't fit different 120 backs, once you remove the film holder from the polaroid you have a reasonable flat surface to work with.

The scary thing is that those prices on the Pentax gear are close to what they're selling for now. Just looked at the completed listings on eBay, and a K1000 w/ new light seals (not CLA'd, just new seals) and a 50 1.7 lens just sold for $170 plus tax and shipping. Makes the bundle above look like a fair price.

We had aggressive German roaches in New Orleans. If you were foolish enough to surprise them by turning on the kitchen light at night, they would run right at you, and they were fast! Nowadays, they'd probably take your camera away and make you press the shutter button for them. Or else.
