I don't know if you guys know about this but at the Harvey Milk photo center you can develop and print all for 10$ !
you can also borrow equipment (to use only on site) and they have high quality scanner (epson V850 ect... )
they even have an 8x10 enlarger !!
They also have monthly and yearly packages if you develop a lot.
I'm just putting this out there so that every new comer would know about this resource.

It isn't really clear from the material what you get for $10 a day. Can you really arrive with say 10 cassettes of films of 36 frames, develop them all and print 360 8x10 prints from them for $10? OK if $10 only gets you a day pass then you will be working very hard to do what I have mentioned above in a day but of course it depends on how long the opening hours are

I will not be able to take advantage of any of this, living about six and a half thousand miles away but it strikes me that lack of details about what $10 gets you suggests that there is a an advertising "hook" here and the "devil is in the detail" as they say. These people may be genuine but I just wish that they gave the impression that they want to inform you about exactly what you get.

Perhaps you know what you get for your $10 as you have experienced it. In which case let us all know the details as the site seem short of such things

yes you can ! but you'll need your own photographic paper for the prints. but the enlarger and chemicals are included.
and if you can't finish it in one day just come and do it the next day. for 20$ it's still a bargain.
also this place is maintained by the parks and rec department of SF, the only reason I'm advertising it is to keep it alive.

anorphirith, thanks for advertising this great resource! If it's like most parks and rec programs if it doesn't get used it won't get funded. For those that don't know, Harvey Milk was on the SF Board of Supervisors and was murdered (along with the mayor) in 1978. Harvey owned a camera store in the city, perhaps that's why the photo center is named after him.

Harvey Milk Photo Center is a public darkroom run by the San Francisco Parks and Rec department. It is a nice facility and the staff is very helpful. For the $10 day rate you get full use of the facility. They provide the chemistry and you have to provide your paper. There's no advertising hook, the $10 charge is simply the day rate for none members. I've been a member for quite a few years, I buy a 6 month pass that gives me unlimited use of the facility during their business hours.

Very grateful that I live close to this facility. I would also encourage people who live close enough to check it out. It's one of those things that will go away if it's not supported.

Wish there was something like that in the Washington DC area. Especially the northern Virginia area. That type of public facility is a great idea to promote film photography.

I live between Old Town and Mount Vernon. It takes me about 25 minutes to get to Glen Echo. I don't use their darkroom, but have exhibited there. They also have a Sunday coffee/ print sharing session I've been meaning to attend. I'd also like to take their platinum/palladium class ( taught by our own The Flying Camera).

Photoworks at Glen Echo has rental dark rooms, I believe.

I used Glen Echo for years when I was working in Virginia. I developed the film in the kitchen and drove to Glen Echo to make prints.
