The Yashica 635 TLR

To say that I love this camera is an understatement. I think I love it more than my 'Blad.... is that bad?

And I really love it when accidents like this happen. I apparently didn't advance it enough and overlapped these images. It works for me though.

The 635 is a Yashica D with a 35mm insert. I've always thought the D was the best TLR Yashica ever made. It has multiple exposure where the Mats don't, just a basic, no nonsense, no frills camera that is capable of extraordinary images.

It's a great camera, as you can tell. I had one -- bought it new, which dates me -- and still regret trading it in. If you have the 35mm holder, the 80mm makes a fine portrait lens on that format.

I do have the 35mm adapter and mask, but haven't used it yet. In fact I have the original case and all accessories - even the Yashica branded cloth satchel of silica gel that keeps the moisture out of the case!

And I do agree with you Rick, it's just easy to use. Everything is just there, no juggling from hand to hand to change settings - it just works. Not too big, not too small, but just right. And the images it makes are just beautiful.

Mine shoots fine, but I do want to send it in for a full CLA and de-dusting. The guy whom I bought it from must have kept it inside the vacuum cleaner or something!

Stunning photos.. I don't know what is about these TLR camera.. your Yashica, Rolleis. The dynamic range they capture is incredible. Got a pic of your camera? Love to see it.

I have a Yashica 124G... I like it, but the viewfinder is so dim compared to the hassy...

That's funny! My 635 is three times brighter than my Hassy.

Is there a "David Odess" of the Yashicas? Anyone know of someone?

Mark Hama is the US Yashica guy. He assembled Yashica-Mats in Japan, came to the US and was service manager for years, then set up his own repair shop.

Had the same problem, until I cleaned the ground glass and the mirror and the taking lens. All is well now.
Got to unscrew the pop up hood to get to the ground glass and the mirror.

It's a little wonder! I bought the yashica 635 because it was cheap; turned out to be an lovely camera/lens.

I'm absolutely in love with my Yashica 635! Below is the very first photograph I ever captured with it; taken last summer from the shore in front of my home on Fogo Island. (off the northeast coast of Newfoundland) I shot it handheld in very low light; in fact I didn't believe it would even turn out. Of my entire camera collection, this is the one I find myself reaching for most. As some of you know, my 635 is rather unique in that it's one of just a handful ever made with black radial control dials, instead of the usual silver ones.
