Here's the dealio, gang. I use D-76 straight most of the time with Trix-X. Why? Because I like the smell.

Interesting, I like D-76 because of its development characteristics. I use Axe for the smell.

Well I continue to mix from scratch and use Kodak F-5 fixer for all my film, even though the hardening action isn't really needed. Why? Because the gentle smell of an acid fixer always takes me back to my youth. It's like a time machine. When I reentered my new darkroom several years back after a 20+ year absence, it was the single most anticipated moment. And the F-5 did not disappoint...

My TF-4 fixer has a repulsive smell. It smells like someone peed in it. But it works well.

My Ilford fixer smells great. ID-11 though has no real discernible bouquet.

Some moron I've encountered, refers to a darkroom as a 'fume room'...might have something to do with 'digital rot'.

The only darkroom smell I dont like, is when I fart. Thats why I fitted an extract fan.

Nothing like that sweet sweet ammonium smell of selenium toner.

Yeah the sulfur toner smell is one that pisses everyone in our community lab off, but most agree that we miss that "darkroom scent" and it's like coming home when a new semester starts and we fill up the trays for the first time.

Well, Xtol, citric acid instead of vinegar and almost-odorless Amaloco X55 don't smell that bad. But I still prefer the aroma of coffee, so I will give Coffenol a try.
