Frank, I think you are absolutely correct. And looking through the internet galleries, I'm not alone. If we made a list of all the subjects that are regularly photographed, I'm sure there are gaps in there where few, if anyone, has ventured. That might make an interesting subject in itself. "Things that have not been photographed". I'm always keen for an adventure.

I've occasionally wanted to do something similar. Find the subjects classifications, categorize your work to-date and find the photographic categories you've covered. Look where there are gaps in your photography.

After looking at this list I can tell I need to do more "spirit photography."

I've photographed spirits before... and then I drank them leaving them as only empty shells of what they once were. Every time it was a supernatural experience. Maybe I should've been a Shaman. Alas, it's too late for that and I must remain a simple old sot.

Sometimes I bring a glass of scotch into the darkroom (being careful to distinguish it from Dektol). Would this count as spirit photography?

Without creating a completely abstract image, and by pointing your lens at something "tangible and identifiable", do you have any advice for creating photographs that are "completely original" both in subject and form? ie; Not another version of Pepper No. 30.

Take a holiday to Arles in France for their annual photography festival. If that doesn't stimulate your creative juices then there's no hope for you.

or maybe even for 2016

or any other large international photography festival outside of your own locality.
