The Pyrocat-HD Developer

Does anybody have any tips for using Pyrocat-HD? I have used PMK and wanted to try the Pyrocat to compare. Suggestions? thanks

Pyrocat HD does not incur a speed loss like some other Pyro formulas do. Your negatives will probably look a little thin the first time you develop them, but the stain will compensate and they'll print just fine. Also, word to the wise - unless you use your bottle of Pyrocat quickly, and are doing high volume processing, get it mixed in Glycol instead of water. Otherwise, when you get near the bottom of the bottle, the remaining developer will oxidize rapidly and you'll literally develop one batch of film just fine, and the next batch will come back grossly underdeveloped because the chemistry has crashed. It won't give you any real warning that it's going to crash - it just will.

I concur, with the above advice." If not Glycol" may I suggest making only a 100 ml of A. I mix up B, for one use, right before, i develop. I measure out 7.5 grams of carbonate dissolve in water, add my 10 ml of A to THAT, add more water to 1L. valola!!!

See, it only makes sense "to make" as much of A, that you will use in a month or two, not 6 months. I suggest, take the extra time to measure out B, for each instance. Ya, I know I will be in the minority here!! a.k.a. "thats not necessary!! etc. But fresh B is needed.IMO. Carbonate will lose its 'effectiveness" if stored too long

And make sure that you mix each part (gently invert in other words) in its bottle before adding it to water. You need to make sure that each part hasn't settled in its bottle between uses.
