It is that time. Finally we are together and need a name. Below are the top contenders for the name of the magazine. At least the ones that were picked out by your behind the scenes mag movers. Steve and I both liked LFC. But do not let us influence you.
None of my film has sprockets. Do you have a lisanse for that minkee?
How about Silver Analog Photography or SAP for short. That way all the corporate geeks could write if off on their expense accounts as a computer magazine! Ya SAP Quarterly.
Or how about Creative Analog Techniques or CAT for short.
Oh here's another one, Analog Photography Techniques or APT or maybe Analog Photography Publication or APP for short. It could be the next killer APP in photography!
Sean, the problem I see with using grains is that color film (if I'm remembering correctly) uses dye clouds. This is why the C-41 B&W appears so smooth (and less sharp--look to the paper sharpness thread or Barry Thornton's Elements of Darkness for this one) compared to traditional B&W.
I really like that suggestion though! Just want to set-up the counter-argument, but I think it doesn't warrant enough merit to knock grain out of the running.
LFC has my vote. To me, it says it all without seeming like too much of a "specialized" magazine which would allow for stronger allurement just off a newstand. I'm all for keeping it about film photography but, if advertising is needed to help support the mag, I think LFC would appeal to a larger range of advertisers.
BTW, is a link going up soon for subscriptions as mentioned in another post?
I don't have a suggestion for the magazine but I think that using the word "Analog" in naming this website is brilliant. It encompasses all formats and camera types, Color and B&W, conventional and alternative processes.
The only thing that it pointedly excludes are digital photographers who certainly have no problem in finding venues to discuss gigabytes and megapixels and which of this week's eight dozen new models have the coolest gizmos and why last week's eight dozen new models are now obsolete, or whatever the heck it is that they like to talk about.
I was reading an advert in the paper last night and it mentioned they even had film cameras for the "Traditionalist" Sounded pretty good for a mag name to me!
PROBLEM
I ran the thread of coming up with a name for how long? people stopped contributing and seemed not to care any longer. From that we all looked at the names that were posted. I sent a list to all involved at the time. I only heard back from Steve via email. Per off handed made his thoughts be know at the workshop. So as Far as the name goes it is kinda late to start the process of getting more ideas. Shy now and not when the thread was going? For us putting it together, we have to have a name asap. So far there has not been a name that would when scrutinized hold up in every last little aspect. There will always be something about any name that people will find fault with. If you want a differnt name for the magazine, talk it up and run a poll and let me know in a about 8 days. That is the time limit for getting one.
