I agree with your premise. I strive to keep my scanner glass clean, without having to go to the extent that you did. Darkroom printing and flat bed scanning can have dust and other spots. All part of the process, and can be mitigated.
On a side note: I am currently making up a digital "slide show" for the local camera club. I have both digital and analog photographs that I could use, but I decided to go with only the digital because printing, scanning and correcting the darkroom stuff was just too much trouble for a presentation to a couple of dozen people that long ago stopped or have never shot film!
