The future of the Aussie print exchange

Could we have a run down of what is required? The guidelines for how this works?

If this is a wet darkroom print exchange I would possibly be up for a participatory spot. However if scanning and digital printing is allowed I personally have zero interest.

since this was an APUG exchange, it was film based, however I think we allowed 'machine prints' (that will be in one of the previous discussions). I too will only participate if it stays 'wet'. As mentioned in another thread, if Photrio members want to start there own 'pixel' exchange, set it up and go for it.

We could rename it 'A&NZ WET print exchange'? In no way would this preclude anyone else starting their own thing, but it'd keep it interesting and specific for darkroom folk?

I'm sure I can.

In regards to the Machine Print thing - it was the original rules from way back when (predated Both Andy and myself), to encourage as many people to participate as possible. But, TBH, its probably just as easy to have it as a wet print exchange - so what if we only have a handful of people exchanging prints.

Hello all... as a former participant having an interest in B/W wet prints only I 'd like to be part of the print exchange group too. As we are all but organised to relaunch I have no qualms being a member of the AUST/NZ "Analogue" print exchange?

You can read threads about all the previous ones via this link. I would also be interested in taking part, particularly if inkjet prints are not allowed. I recall in the last exchange there was a B&W inkjet print that had been made from a film original that had been scanned and photoshopped. Didn't seem right to me.

Some explanation on the prints being generated from non wet means it came about after some long discussion when participants took their colour negative/s to a lab to be printed at 8x10 and what they got back were non - RA4 prints - Glicee I think it was called. It was let slide as the intent was to be all analog. Given the new generation of APUG to PHOTRIO I think this is the opportunity to set up a new set of requirements.

The reason the prints were all sent to one person to distribute was to save cost. About 10, 8x10 prints an info sheet, and a return pre paid addressed envelope could be stuffed into a pre paid envelope. From memory it was like $8 or $9 for postage anywhere in Oz. That was far cheaper than send off up to 10 prints individually. I don't know if Auspost still has these big pre paid envelopes any more. Only the organiser was inconvenienced by having to sort all the prints for each of the participants, but the bonus I found was to see before anyone else everyone's spectacular prints.

A clarification please -

If I am able to take part do I,
[1] - print 10 prints from the same negative
or [2] print 10 prints from 10 negatives?

[1] makes sense to me but you never know

It is up to you if one or two works better for you.

Depending on the me tof people interested there might be 6 different people therefore 5 prints required as you will already have your own print/s or up to 10-12 (based on the number of prints that can fit in the prepaid envelope) where each participant sends in 1less prints than the number of participants in for exchanging. If there is 16 for instance then there might be two groups of 8.

I have seen a participants send in more than one print and up to 4 different prints. There has been lithographs, van dyke brown on various materials, Cyanotypes, b&w as well as color prints. The prints have ranged from extremely well produced to maybe not so well. It all comes down to the level of expertise of the photo printer. The objective is to make the best print/s you can.

Most people would do [1] but there would be nothing to stop you from doing [2] if it took your fancy.

I would having done it before but it makes no sense for everyone to send prints to the US only to have them shipped back to Oz where most came from. Sp I put it out there, Ash, Nige, Marc, Kevin, Ozexplorer, Steve, Michael! Anyone else...

I have an idea I may try may - such a word of strong conviction!

I will photograph a single subject enough times so that I can include a negative with each print. I will only print from one negative but the "copies" will be originals of the same scene if you follow?
