The finish on a Ries

I recently acquired a Ries C-100 tripod, and I was wondering if anyone knows how the wood on a Ries is finished.

I would just call Ries. They have been very helpful when I have called them.

I would probably use a wipe on polyurethane finish. Many thin coats and wax.
