The shipping is zip code based. How far are you from the seller?

Curt's dream enlarger looks like my worst nightmare, its from the dark ages before we got great colour heads, excellent for variable contrast papers.

That Zeiss looks interesting but the seller doesn't know the market, you can get a great De Vere 10x8 for far less from the manufacturers, reconditioned or new.

Oh Curt, I had an old enlarger I was giving away for free to anyone who could collect. But I'm a continent away from it now, and it will get scrapped when I return to the UK.

Where are you located? I've found quite a few 5x7 Elwoods (the bulbs are easier to find than the Solars) in the NYC area over the last year and picked up one here and one in Boston and given another to a friend. I've paid a total of $50 for the three. $30, $20 and a free one.

If you're near a major U.S. city check out Craigslist.

I agree, the wooden negative carrier is most likely wearning out, the single colume with metal band counter weight may be losing tension, and the angle of the colume will make is diffcult to cover a large print. And good luck if you need a new bellows. Solar was made in both a condenser and diffusion model, which one is this.

I don't need one but I thought that the shipping seemed high. I live in the NW Washington. Maybe the shipping isn't that high.

While I assume the original poster was posting with tongue in cheek (although I find the black electrical tape on red bellows a very attractive color combination),
I wonder if it makes sense to post "good deals" on enlargers organized by geographic area.

For example, I know of 4 Omega 4x5s in decent shape being sold in the Minneapolis area (2 with cold light heads). The could probably be bought individually for $75-100 each - maybe less. I'd be tempted for one myself, but I could hear it now: "you bought ANOTHER enlarger, where will be put all this stuff".

And then I'd have to go buy diamonds.

Yes it was a tongue in cheek post, maybe not such a good comment on the shipping for a patched up one. Sometimes you run across a listing that makes you laugh, I guess it's not universal.
