The end of film? First studio stops distributing celluloid

He was talking about it the other day on the TV and recommending for the viewers that if they could see it to see Interstellar 70mm IMAX.

TVs killed cinemas eg in '50s in suburbia there was a cine theatre 100 yards from front door, titles changed twice a week. The next nearest 400 yards. In '60s they converted to shops.

In large towns the cine theatres had been next to one another. All the live theatres went to wall or dualled.

In '30s lots of houses plots were converted to cine theatres as talkies took over. Families went to see movies several times a week. Only some people had radios.

Nothing is static.

In the '00s people were able to use the new digital cameras and photography was available to most of the population thereby.

They were easier to use
And instant to chimp

You would have real trouble to get a chimp to load a Barnack or a cut film holder.

But a chimp can take a good selfie

I heard that the Boeing IMAX theater is being converted to digital, so Interstellar may of been the last time film will be seen there. All the IMAX theaters here in BC Canada have already converted to digital. I did not get to see Interstellar on film, but in digital at the IMAX here. Last time I saw real IMAX (film) was in 2012 with Nolan's Dark Knight Rises.

I wonder if neg film will still be sold at Kodak for motion picture capture? Seeing IMAX scanned to digital is no where near full rez off the film. Our IMAX theaters here are only two 2K projectors in tandem. Hardly high rez. I fully support film capture and 70mm, but it looks like those days are numbered. Labs are closing all the time these days, which means who will still be able to do the film once all the labs are gone? I think the labs will close before Kodak runs out of film stock to sell.
