I noticed that one of our local photo places was offering a little something beyond the usual portrait classes. You can now "Schedule a one on one session with our camera coaches.... and get your specific questions answered".

That's all there is to it. $69 later, and you can have a personal one hour session w/ someone who will explain (in a positive, reassuring manner) why your Iskra will always have light leaks.

Hopefully they'll follow this up w/ a psychic/astrological print toning workshop.

The local Elder College used to offer small group classes for seniors who needed help navigating the controls and menus on their digital cameras and smart phones.
I expect this is simply a one-on-one version of the same.
I wonder how they would react to the frame counter and double exposure prevention on my Baby Bessa?

1. take lens cap off
2. put camera on AE
3. point
4. hit shutter button.

nothing more, nothing less.

I like you response. What makes up the remaining 30%?

Everyone's best photographs are with the lens cap on, because they are always perfect.

I dan see a "camera Coach" being of some use to someone new to film photography.
On the other hand, I don't expect many newbies to want to pay $69 for a camera coach.

If you think that is somehow bad, you should go look up some prices for certification in software development or industrial processes...

But seriously, less than $100 for an hour of a professional's time to answer specific questions you haven't sorted out answers for yourself yet? That's not that bad if they actually know their stuff and are a decent teacher.

Not everyone interested in photography has had their noses glued to manuals for decades...

I don't know what your camera stores are like, but the local one I shop at is damn professional, and thus the reason I keep buying from them rather than ordering online...

But I will say that I find it horribly unprofessional to blindly rag on a business with no context as to the quality of knowledge or service.

I believe the term is "how white of them"... they charge 200$ OVER MSRP on the D5600,,,,,


We have a saying in retail, " we can give a 20% discount on something because we are charging you 130% MSRP for it"

How do you know what the Canadian MSRP is on a Nikon D5600?
Based on my survey of Canadian retailers with an internet presence, their price is the same or lower than the prices of others who offer that (discontinued) model.
B&H sells it for approximately $800.00 USD with the kit lens.
Kerrisdale Cameras sells it for approximately $900.00 CDN with the kit lens, which after currency conversion works out to be approximately $720.00 USD.

I've just checked. Nikon Canada sells the D5600 with kit lens for the same price as Kerrisdale Camera.
