Like a photographic renaissance, historic and alternative processes seem to be making a resurgence in today’s modern photographic trends. More and more photographers are experimenting with methods such as Platinum, Palladium, Salt Prints, Cyanotypes, VanDyke, Albumen, Tintypes, Daguerreotypes, Wet Plate Collodion, Photopolymer, Lith Printing, Photogravure, Gum Bichromate – to name a few. With the addition of some modern technology, such as digital negatives, the results can be stunning – to say the least.
VCP is proud to introduce our latest call-for-entry for our upcoming juried exhibition featuring photography of any subject matter using any type of alternative or handmade photographic process to create the printed image. The image can be captured using a digital SLR, but the resulting print on display must be achieved using a handmade process. The processes listed in the first paragraph are only a sampling of mediums which will be considered. If you have a question as to whether or not the specific process you are using is acceptable, please contact Joshua Farr atinfo@vcphoto.org or leave a message at 802-251-6051. Gelatin silver prints will only be considered on a very limited basis – though are generally discouraged.
If you do not have digitized files of your handmade prints, VCP is able to do high-resolution scans in-house on our Epson V-700 Flatbed scanner. Make sure you give yourself enough time to have your submission in by March 1st. Please refer to our scanning services page for details!
We are looking for those who are working in these mediums to submit up to FOUR images to be considered for a month-long juried exhibition at the Vermont Center for Photography. All work should be framed or “ready-to-hang” upon arrival.
See the VCP webpage http://vcphoto.org/the-art-of-handmade-alternative-photography/ for schedule and entry submission page
