The Paul Paletti Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky will be exhibiting photographs by Bruce Cook, Gayle Moore, and myself (Daniel Lin [APUG handle: dlin]) as part of The Affordable Art Show. Additional photographs from local artists will also be exhibited. The artworks are for sale at $300 each or less.

The show will be on display from December 5, 2008 to February 27, 2009
Gallery hours are 9-5 on weekdays, and by appointment.

Paul Paletti Gallery
713 East Market Street
Louisville, Kentucky 40202

A special reception will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 5-8 PM.

Paul has a magnificent collection of photographs ranging from vintage to currently active artists. He is a wonderful fellow with a vast knowledge of and appreciation for the photographic arts. I would love to meet fellow APUGers and photography enthusiasts in the area.

All the best,
Daniel

That's fantastic Daniel. I figured it was only a matter of time before you were in a gallery. Good luck. Louisville is quite a trek from where you live....right??

John

Thanks, John. I'm both excited and honored. Louisville is only a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from where I live in Indiana. Paul has been instrumental in supporting a vibrant community of photographers, both professional and amateur, in Louisville. Apart from his gallery, which routinely exhibits top notch artists, he hosts regular gatherings every 1st Thursday of the month for people to share their work. That kind of community of artists is invaluable, and well worth the long drive.

All the best,
Daniel

Congatulations, Daniel! This is well deserved.

I had the opportunity to meet Paul this past April and he seems like a nice fellow who's obviously made some great choices for this show!

I've also been fortunate enough to do a little traveling/photographing with Bruce Cook and not only is he a great guy but a fantastic photographer and ONE HELL OF A PRINTER.

I wish this were happening in January instead of December when I'm swamped with work. I'd definitely make the trip otherwise. Good luck with show! All the best. Shawn

Daniel,

First of all congrats. Your work is outstanding. As a side note forget the sales just make sure Paul has some of the Dumante (sp) out for your tasties. That's his pistachio liquer that absolutely rocks. It should be part of your contract!!!

wish I wasn't traveling in the west for work or i would drive up for the opening. have a great time and once again congrats to you and the rest of the artists, I know you'll do well.

The print I got at Raid Our Gallery in Connecticut last year was Bruce Cook's. It's a striking piece. Bruce is just about the best printer among us. You're in fine company. (which I knew anyway, because Paletti won't show anything he doesn't think is important work and there's no better curator)

Thank you all for the encouragement. The show runs for three months and I hope you can stop by at some point, but if not, Paul's permanent collection is well worth seeing at any time. He is justly proud of it and is very generous with his time and knowledge.

All the best,
Daniel

At the Reception

My wife, Twinkle, and I attended the reception at the Paul Paletti Gallery in Louisville Friday night. It was good to meet up again with friends like Daniel Lin, Gayle Moore, Tom Potter, and many others…

That alone would have been worth the drive to Louisville hands down. AS A GRAND BONUS, we were treated to a marvelous presentation of Paul’s personal photo collection and prints from several local artists in his firm’s law offices. As one would expect in a collection of this caliber, we found works from most of the favorite masters – Adams, White, Weston, Stieglitz, Cunningham. Slowly making our way down the main hallway, marveling at each photo, I glanced at the end wall and was absolutely dumbstruck by a larger than life sized print of Steve McCurry’s “Afghan Girl” originally published in “National Geographic”. THOSE EYES!!!

There are works hanging from a couple of names I recognized from APUG like Bill Schwab and Kirk Gittings. It seemed that every wall in the building was adorned with works of significance.

I want to publicly congratulate Daniel Lin on his presentation. I know there are many APUG members who have been fans (including me) of Daniel’s work found here in the Gallery section. Daniels’s vision is much more impressive in person than on the computer screen.

Gayle Moore presented her portfolio that many of you would recognize from the cover of the January/February 2008 issue of “View Camera” magazine – recall the “Simplicity” portfolio. Again, seeing the prints in person gives you a much better appreciation for good talent.

Yeah, Paully's photo collection is really something. It's almost as fine as his whiskey collection. Now there's something to travel to Lousiville for...

Congratulations Daniel. You have the wonderful combination of sensitive eye and technical knowledge to create beautifully. Briefly spoken reflecting a life of hard work. A show well deserved and earned.

Hey Daniel, wish I could have made the opening night. Your photography is amazing. Going to try and make it down to Pauls in January. It would be amazing to see a collection such as Paul's.

Congratulations Daniel. So very well deserved.
