It was just announced but I very much like the idea of a digital back that is useful on all those older cameras. Very interesting!

Predecessor CFV-50c was around $15k list... can't imagine this won't be a step up in price...

You can buy a lot of films for $15,000 plus tax that this back costs.

How is it that a 50MP back cost $15,000 and a 50MP camera costs $5750?

I’m going to assume you know the answer to that question.

( I think the Hasselblad back is a very cool product, although it’s cool factor would be multiplied if it was a square format. But I’m not remotely interested in actually purchasing one for what little that’s worth.)

I am less than totally not interested in digital Hasselblad back especially if it is not square.

Don't worry Sirius, you aren't the target market.

Modeling agency might be one target market.

In 1980's Portland were two modelling agencies, Barbizon was one. Young women 18-22 were lined up around the block for their photo shoots. I can't imagine how many rolls of 120 they'd go through in an afternoon. Digital back would pay for itself very quickly.

I'm curious on pricing too. Seems that the race between Fuji and Hassy has brought down the digital MF prices considerably and this might just be the ticket. Seriously considering buying a 500cm setup now for the first time...

Keep in mind that its 'only' a 44x33mm sensor, so your Zeiss primes and up being somewhat weird equivelant focal lengths.

I wonder if there would be a market for a model of lesser specs, say 24000 mpix, at a price of current FF digital camera, for all the hobby amateurs who have Hasselblads. locustus has a very good point, though and the horizontal layout precludes the WLF in portrait orientation.

It's very cool, but I guess I'll keep my 60x60mm sensors, and replace them every 12 exposures.

I wonder who is making the sensor for them? That's hardly what I would consider a medium format sensor but it is larger than a full frame sensor. It fits somewhere between 35mm film and 127 film.

I prefer to think of it as replacing the sensor every exposure.:whistling:
Or at least that is what I tell my friends when they talk about the challenges of having the sensor in their camera cleaned.

Also, the body finder shall show the cropping lines for proper alignment with the smaller area covered by the digital back.

The only way I'd be really interested now that I have had some time to think about it is if the sensor was at least 6cm on the horizontal side. 6x6 would be nicer. However in my world I need the ability to change the perspective ratio in camera and also must have at least 4k video. I'm also thinking my Zeiss legacy lenses probably will not perform very well when married to a high resolution digital sensor. I would imagine the CA would be horrendous. Once I started trying to use my older Nikkor glass on my FF DSLR is quickly became apparent that some of my old favourites while stunning when using film really sucked in the digital environment.

I think a 6x6 digital sensor is doable and once the economies of scale kick in Hasselblad will market one. Or someone else will beat them to the punch.

I would love to see some images from this new (not really new, just repackaged) digital back taken with old glass. It's all about image "look" and flexibility.

As I understand it lenses designed for digital sensors are different than those that were designed for film. It has to do with how the light hits the digital sensor, the sensors are very sensitive to this and old film lenses just don't work as well with the sensors. I assume that means film lenses cause things like CA.
