Thanks KERIK!

Just completed workshop at Photographer's Formulary Gum Over Platinum/palladium.....excellent! Not only is Kerik an accomplished fine art photographer, he is an excellent teacher and willingly imparts his knowledge and skills....Kerik's prints are something to see in person....If you haven't done so, check out his website....just type Kerik in google and you will find it....

I will be going back to Photographer's Formulary for more workshops...the Condon Montana area is beautiful and the hospitality, food and facilities at the Formulary are 1st class!

I'm looking forward to taking Kerik's workshop in October. Sounds like you had a lot of fun and learned something too.

I could only get away from work for one week this summer so I choose Sandy King's Carbon workshop at the Formulary, but Kerik's was my second choose.

I can't think of a better place to learn than there. The food, facilities, locale, did I mention the food were incredible (I gained 2 lbs without having seconds). It really is the place to go to learn alt. processes.

amen Magic , to the food.....I had wished to remain for Kerik and Sandy, but couldnt work the schedule for both weeks....

what a relief from the Vegas heat to stay at Formulary...and not need the air conditioner!

Just loved those 16 foot ceilings in the lecture room and the dark rooms! I also found Bud quite helpful at all times (even mixing a special potion of Rolo pyro for me for a mid night printing session!) I dont want to think about Lynn's wonderful cooking at this time...

You come and teach me carbon printing - I'll feed you lots of yummies!

There was a participant in the gum over workshop who had attended the Yosemite workshop with Kerik last year....he brought some really beautiful 8 x 20 prints.....is the Yosemite workshop full? I think Kerik is still up in Washington somewhere?

Well, I'm finally back in CA after a great road trip from Montana to WA and the OR coast.

The Gum-Platinum workshop was a blast for me. As Dave said, the Formulary's facility is first rate and the food and hospitality can't be beat. My thanks to Bud, Lynn and the staff for making the week an enjoyable one for all of us, including my family who tagged along. I appreciate the opportunity to teach there and look forward to returning in the future.

And it may not come across in his APUG postings, but Dave is one of the funniest guys you're ever likely to meet. Although if you're not paying attention, some of his funniest lines may go over your head because of his deadpan delivery. In fact, all 5 attendees were funny in their own ways and I don't recall laughing so much during a workshop. Long days printing in the darkroom were followed by unwinding on the porch sipping a little single malt or a Moose Drool beer while discussing just about everything under the sun. Dusk comes slowly in that part of the country and last light was around 10:30.

As for the other workshops mentioned, the Yosemite workshop in December is also gum over platinum and I'm sure there are still spots available. The workshop in October in Placerville is intro to platinum/palladium and is already full with a short waiting list. For more info, check out my website.

Carbon has to be seen in person to really believe. A lot of its charm and charactor comes from the fact that you end up with a 3-d surface of your print. The last prints I made had amazing relief. I'll try to shoot a couple of digitals and post to show what I'm taking about. Stay tuned.

As to food. Lynn just does an amazing job, but photography was the main dish.

The Forumulary will be running (with enough students) the Carbon Printing class next year. Start saving because you want to learn this process. I took a couple of prints into the frame shop to get mats cut and everyone in the shop had to come running to see. They'd never seen anything like them and were amazed.

As promised. Here are the photos and scans of a carbon print. One is a scan of the whole print. I discovered that the scanner kinda freaks with the relief. The other three are some closeup shots that show the relief.
