Just wanted to mention a book I came across today by Wyman Meinzer - Canyons of the Texas High Plains. I have followed Mr. Meinzers work for several years and this one really helps to show all of the wonderfull places to visit if you are ever in the Texas panhandle...much more there than the flat land you seem to drive through. If you would like a sample of the places go to the following link - Dead Link Removed
Sure makes me want to get in the car and head up there..just forget the old job and get ready to burn some film....oh! well,,,back to reality.
Meinzer is not only a great photographer (though I personally do not much like his work, it just does not speak to me), but is a great person. I spent a year at Texas Tech where Meinzer is a professor and had the luxery to listen to him speak and spoke to him 1-on-1 a few times. Very nice gent.
Mike,
Think it is cold here in the metromess? in the panhandle it is really cold right now. Well, cold for Texas. Might wanna wait until spring and then do the Walter Middy impression.
Jeremy, understand your comment about 'does not speak to me', alot of his work does little for me. However, the places he goes and shares are usually worth a look.
Lee, don't I know it..the only thing to stop a cold front up there is a strand of 'barbed wire'. Seems like these days, have to grab any time I can. Was on the eastern side of Palo Duro back in Oct., really nice drive..just seems like pain getting to it. ; )
