Tetenal revival project

This is possibly more for our european customers but because we have to assume that Tetenal is never coming back, we started a little poll which products are missed the most by you guys.
This helps us to focus on what to possibly bring back first.

Thanks, I've voted, however there are several TT products I'm missing already and they are not included in the poll. Whats was your criteria for the poll?

I miss the beautiful XTOL without any of the little yellow bits. Goodluck with this.

Adox already has a great alternative: XT-3

On topic: I never used a Tetenal branded chemical - I only do B&W. If I would do colour myself I wouldn't use Tetenal since they have blix.

Can't you see from was sold through Fotoimpex what were the most used Tetenal products?

Can/may you say something about the situation with Ilford chemicals, they are also made by Tetenal if I'm right. I really like Ilfosol 3, would be sad to lose it.

Exactly. I have a lifetime supply of XTOL from the early 2000s, stored in a manner coordinated with XTOL's inventors, that still functions exactly as it always did when I mix a new five-liter batch using steam-distilled water and decant it into 20 250ml glass bottles, but it always develops a filimentary precipitate that must be filtered out before use. So I recently ordered some XT-3 from FOTOIMPEX. My tests show it's providing sensitometric results identical to XTOL, creates no dust during mixing and does not develop any precipitate. The latter advantage might stem from elimination of borax, but that's pure uninformed speculation.

We can see what we sold in Germany but we cannot see what has been sold in the US or elsewhere. Also people have shfted to other brands in the past 12 months. With some luck to ADOX but maybe some users are still using stock. Some products are easy to replace whilst others might not be. So I think an up to date poll is a good thing for us to priotitise in the right direction. R&D capacities are limited and we need to pick the most important things first.

The version of HC-110 that used to be made in Germany for Kodak.

This is tricky though because the stabilizer is no longer available and we have to make it. I am not sure that we can compete in price with the the other versions of HC 110 out there (including the Fotoimpex version) if we go back to the "good old stuff". But we would know how to in case there is a demand.

TT Neofin Blau
TT Neofin Rot
TT Emofin
TT Ultrafin Plus (not T)

Back on the shelves from whoever Ilford's new supplier is. Lid and label are slightly different & now lists a Dutch address as well as the UK one.

I would say Colortec E-3 kit and Neofin Blau/Rot are the most unique. Rest are already covered more or less by some products of other brands, including Adox itself.

Old syrup HC-110 formulation would be great for many but better check that PSI is not going to do it as well. Would be difficult to compete with anything having the big "K" on the label.

Eukobrom. The real, original stuff.

I vote also for Magic-Box E-6 and C-41 !

This is available from Jobo and Bellini. The Tetenal 3 bath chemistry is actually more stable than conventional 6-bath chemistry. It is the technological more advanced product and took decades of R&D (not only from Tetenal). In our years of working with it- it never went bad.
Various 6 bath however did. Therefore we will focus on the 3 bath. Sorry.

What about the Compard Digibase kits, they were repackaged Fuji Hunt, right? Are there other companies currently repacking Fuji chemicals?

I know nothing about chemistry and not going to challenge ADOX on their preference for 3-bath kits. But the obvious thing to ask is why didn't Fuji or Kodak, the two companies with the deepest R&D pockets, never launched blix-based chemicals for neither C41 or E6? According to old Photo Engineer posts the answer was that Kodak could not make blix to work with film. That's coming from the mid-00s era when they were at their peak. Coincidentally, 3-bath kits have only been available from small companies with no R&D departments, the same ones who suggest to soup up to 16 rolls in one liter contrary to Kodak and Fuji datasheets.

And of course, nothing comparable to Z-131 was ever produced for 3-bath products, with CMY density curves plotted for each round of chemistry reuse, etc. I suppose only the technical-minded users even care, while the market wants to pay for something that is good enough, cheap and easy to use. In that case I wish there was a datasheet covering what "good enough" means.

I am not trying to be a difficult customer. I simply see the difference in quality between C-41 products, for example the Bellini C-41 developer produced negatives that are notably easier to color-correct after scanning and show closer groupings of RGB readings on a densitometer than the last batches of Flexicolor chemistry. Another even earlier example was Cinestill C-41 kit. The first four rolls developed together in it were extremely hard to color balance. So much so that I had to re-validate my thermometer (it was fine). I know they're not all the same.

I used a 5 liter Tetenal E6 kit for 3 or 4 years. I split it up in smaller bottles. Kept beautiful. This kit included a bit of crystals for the 4th bath final rinse, I found little tiny crystals on my film, not a big deal.
