Once well developed (the very beginning of technical practice) these can act as a test negative for printing?

So in what way do you want to "calibrate" the enlarger? There's not much calibration needed or even possible on most enlargers. What kind of enlarger do you use?

i have an ilford 500, multi-contrast head. i know that those are calibrated, at least that is what i read. ilford published a couple of negatives and a copy as a witness of those negatives that serve as a measurement, or testero. it is also true what you mention that enlargers are not calibrated at the same level of quality as the other two.
