Anyone have experience using the Nikon TC-201 2x Teleconverter with the Nikon 300mm F4 AF ED on the Nikon F6? I am mostly concerned with determining how the exposure determination is made: In camera or must you use a meter? I went out yesterday afternoon for a short time and fiddled with it with no film loaded and for a while I got "fEE" on the LCD and then what appeared to be exposure reading when on manual with shutter priority mode. Setting the exposure compensation to 2-stops reduced the shutter speed accordingly.

Thanks,
Thomas

A quick follow-up:
I set the lens to Manual, the camera focusing mode selector to "M", the ISO to 400, and the exposure metering system to 3D color matrix. I then manually set the aperture ring to F4 and I get a shutter speed reading (in this case) of 640, but the LCD and viewfinder reads F2. Turning the aperture ring to F11 I now get a shutter speed of 100 with the F-stop listed as being F5.6. The F stop reading in the viewfinder is always 2 stops behind the aperture ring setting. Setting the exposure compensation changes the shutter speed so at F11 the speed becomes 20 with +2 exposure compensation. Changes in the subjects brightness results in a corresponding change in shutter speeds as does cycling through spot, center, and matrix metering modes. The in-focus indicator works as well. Although the viewfinder indicates the f-stop is 2 stops from the aperture ring, stopping down the camera indicates that the aperture ring setting is correct. So what do you think: Ignoring what the camera says the F-stop is and setting the exposure compensation +2?

It seems that one needs to program lenses and maximum apertures on the F6 to use anything other than aperture priority or manual. The camera has no idea what aperture you've selected because there is no connection to the camera when using the TC 201. Nikon doesn't say that the 300 f4 is compatible with the 201. There's no need to use any exposure compensation.

I've used TC-201 & TC-300 converters with 300mm lenses - but on older bodies like the F2/F3/FM2. The TC300 does produce better results. But in any case the results weren't great.

I think there is/was a 1.4x converter that coupled correctly to modern IC containing AF lenses.
