Ted Orland
Scenes of Wonder and Curiosity: A Wide-Ranging Retrospective
January 10 - February 28, 2009
Artist Reception: January 10, 5PM-9PM
This retrospective exhibit showcases Ted Orland's evolving artistic vision, from tonally perfect black and white prints in the tradition of Ansel Adams, to hand-colored works and digital collages. Exquisite, whimsical, quirky, spontaneous, insightful, his photography is all of the above. Accidental light leaks become part of the composition; an obtrusive trash-can mimics a magnificent landscape; bold colors float on a black and white background... His preferred equipment? a $10 plastic camera . Imbued with a benign irony, his photographs carry the engaging power of a story half-told, leaving the viewer to speculate about what is really there.
