Took a package of Tec. to my local post office ,which happens to be the district headquarters, and was told that sending this product through the mail was not allowed.
Furthermore,if I sent it, the package would probably be seized and I could be fined.Stone the bloody crows! Last thing I need is to be hassled by the fed's.
Guess I'll shelve the Technidol and dispose of the Kodak Kits.

That's totally ridiculous! Did you tell them it was being used to make bombs or something...? Who ever heard of a shipping ban on developers?? On what grounds did they base the assesssment??

Yep. I tried to send several color kits to Project Basho as a donation recently and I was denied shipping. Seems I have to let them go bad here while I do emulsion work. So, I have about 3 kits of RA and C41 going bad on the shelf. They are free, but I cannot ship them.

Is this a Canada only thing? I guess I get mine via UPS ground so maybe that is different...

The US govt and their affiliated services have been doing some pretty reprehensible unabashed cash grabs lately - I would guess this is just another of them to force you to pay an extra $50 fee for hazmat handling.

You have to have a DEA license to send these things in the US. This extends to other countries. It has nothing to do with the US.

UPS and FedEx will not take any acid or base unless you have special packing and a special release form, and they reserve the right to deny transport. In any case, it appears as if you assume all liability in case anything goes wrong.

I was denied shipping outright at UPS for C41 chemistry.

Hmm - well if it were me, For a private carrier, I'd just pack it well in a plain box and not tell them what it is.

Highly unlikely if properly packed - in addition, I would consider using an absorbent packing material to absorb a leak. Also, as I said, I wouldn't try it with the Postal Service.

Back in the days I might have tried to slide one past the post office but since the s*%t went down in 9/11 sending something that is defined as a hazard through the mails is nuts.
Its just not worth the trouble.

I think that's just a sign of any large organization who wants to increase cash flow / profits. A couple of years ago I could order propane and the truck would show up and all I paid for was the gas and tax. Now when I get the bill I'm charged a haz mat handling fee, plus a transportation fee. Oh, and the gas still goes up...

The way things are handled nowdays by all of the delivery systems is pretty shoddy. I have packages just thrown on the porch, with a bang. One split open.

So, consider this: some nearby kids decide to grab the broken box as a childish prank while you are away and take it off your porch. They open it and spill it giving rise to burns on their hands, a rash, and some dead wildlife and plants.

The senders address is on the package. so is yours.

What happens next will be a nightmare. Good luck.

I am very uncomfortable with the careless attitudes about shipping chemicals that can be generated in discussions like these. If carrier companies and postal services are restrictive in what they will accept, they are being careful for safety reasons. Their attitudes are not an attempt to be difficult for the sake of difficulty. Improperly prepared shipments of hazardous materials can be dangerous to carrier employees and the public. Those readers in the U.S. (and elsewhere) may find the following like of interest, as it outlines the way the laws work with respect to shipping hazardous materials in the U.S.:

Anyone who contemplates concealing a regulated hazardous chemical shipment needs to understand that those actions, when detected, can be punished through fines and penalties and those fines and penalties are not unusual. I won't deny that there can be scenarios where `our´ chemistry can be hazardous. But the scenario PE just painted, and what could happen to my experiences with the postal service over here at my doorstep too, is primaraly an issue of malpractice in transportation.

Anyway, all that stories of changing times coming from North-America are really worrying!

I just received C41 chemistry (developer & bleach) from Adorama via UPS yesterday. Am I missing something?
