Technical Pan developer.. rodinal?

hi.
I just got a box of tech Pan 4x5" and I am curious to know whether some of you have tried Rodinal as developer?

I still have some bottles of the old Tetenal Neofin Doku, that I have always meant to be the very best developer for that film, but I havn't enough bottles to go around here...

on massive dev chart there is mentioned the Rodinal 1:300...

I want the smooth tones on the film, as I will use it for portraits/nudes...

right choise?

I once tried the HC110 dil F (1:79) but that turned out stone hard..

experiences?

Don't use Rodinal if you don't want the same 'stone hard' results as you got with HC-110. Some folks think these results are what TechPan is supposed to provide, but they aren't. OTOH, if you have a very low contrast subject then normal developers aren't such a bad choice for use with TP.

The best developer is Technidol, but it is no longer made and the prices on ebay for the remaining stocks are sometimes ridiculous.

Photographers' Formulary makes TD-3 developer for use with TechPan and this may be the best commercial choice.

You can also mix up some POTA - it is a very simple developer made from Phenidone and S. Sulfite, and is the basis for all low-contrast developers designed for use with ultra-fine grain film.

I have a roll of tech pan also. I was also thinking stand dev to control contrast.

well - I have used technidol, but prefer any day the neofin doku for my kind of motives...

about making my own developer: I suppose it can be done, bu tI am not sire, as the Danes have very high restrictions on who can buy raw chemicals and who can't...

I develop TechPan in 4x5 in Rodinal (R09) 1:100 for (I think) 8min on in a Jobo drum on UniRoller motor base. I shoot it at EI 25. Here is what it looks like

i develop techpan in Rodinal 1:300 for 12 min at EI 25, shake the developer before using it

I have some 135mm film that I can test on the rodinal.
Whether it will be as 1:100 or 1;300, I have to decide, but the image shown shows many nice tones..

I'll let you know what the result will be.

There is a time on unblinkingeye.com for Microphen at 1:5. I have tried it and it works. Microphen costs much less than Technidol and lasts much longer once it is mixed. If you must have Technidol I saw a bunch of it at Le Zot Camera in Burlington, VT in August.

When I shot Tech Pan I developed it in Ethol TEC. You can still get that at digitaltruth.com..great stuff that tech pan, I just hope the rollei atp in 120 is as good.

Rodinal works well with Tech pan, I used the combination numerous times at a wide variety of dilutions from 1+25 for copying fine detailed line artwork/lithographic prints to 1+100 or 1+150 for pictorial work. I also used POTA, but diluting Rodinal gave similar results.
