I recently bought two Tamron Adaptall 2 Yashica/Contax mount adapters. It turns out that one is in AE mount while the other is in MM mount. MM lenses don't do anything special on my Yashica cameras but allow more functions on my Contax 167mt cameras. The MM mount adapter is the only one I have ever seen. The AE mount came out in 1975 with the Contax RTS. The MM mount did not appear until about ten years later. A recent look at the auction site showed many Tamron Y/C adapters but all were AE types. According to Google, the Adaptall 2 line went out of production in 2006. I hope to find a few more of the MM mount adapters. I still enjoy using the Adaptall 2 lenses and having shutter priority automation as an option is nice.

It's the same thing with Minolta and the Adapall-2. Most people assume that all of the Adapall-2 Minolta mounts are the same, but Tamron made TWO that are slightly different in order to accommodate the additional MD feature of the XD, and later X-700, models. The packages are the same, so you can only tell which one you have by looking at it.

It was the same for other brands, as well, such as Pentax, but I have no details on these.

There were other adapters which came in different versions. These include Nikon F and Nikon AI (possibly AI-S too), M42 and SMC, Pentax K and K-A and maybe Exakta and Topcon.
