I am just getting started in Large Format and have now in my possession a 4x5 Galvin/Gowland Pocket View (not sure which) and a Sironar-N 180mm in Compur 1 Electronic shutter. I got the shutter working using a CR123A battery and some tinfoil (the PX21 battery is not available). But now my problem is that this shutter has two aperture/shutter presets (one is red one is green) levers that extend quite a ways up from the shutter. This is a problem because the levers will hit the frame of the camera where the lens board sits. Does anyone know if I can take these things off? It's obvious I can set the shutter and aperture without them so I'm really not sure what purpose they serve.

The battery is most certainly available, any decent battery store can obtain them for you, cost is around $5 each (if I remember correctly) and the first one I opened is still working strong after 1 1/2 years. While I prefer teh electrnic shutters, some don't, and if you hose one, you're done, no repairs are possible.

Ok a picture is in order here. I don't think my post was clear what I was talking about. In the picture you'll see my shutter. The two big posts sticking out that select shutter and aperture are the problem. The lens and main shutter assembly are fine. I can select aperture and shutter from the main assembly too. The two big posts are what I don't want.

Both indicators can be removed, the aperture mounts to the lensboard and teh shutter speed indicator to the shutter (or vice versa)
