Taking apart the lens on a Konica Auto S2

Hi,

I've got a Konica Auto S2 with aperture blades that stick when I try to open them past about 4. I've read this guide: http://feuerbacher.net/photo/frame.html?repair/KonicaAutoS2/KonicaAutoS2.html~Main but, uh... I can't figure out how to get the name plate off. I've removed the lens shade and everything, but the nameplate is stuck pretty firmly in there. I don't want to damage the camera by forcing it, so does anyone have any tips?

Hi,

Did you remove the thin threaded ring (not in the pictured in Mick Feuerbachers description) that holds the name plate in place? If you have, the name plate ought to fall out without resistance. It does on my two S2s. If it doesn't, maybe the meter wires are stuck between the name plate and the front element (or the lens housing). I would try to drag it out by "suitable force". Expect the meter wires to break near the solder joints. They did on my two S2s

I did not! Do you mean the black plastic piece that the outer lens and shade screw into, or the metal ring in between that and the name plate? I have a piece of rubber I'm trying to use as a friction tool, but it seems to be in there tighter than I can manage.

The metal ring. I was able to turn it by inserting a small screwdriver in one of the tiny slots in the ring. If it's very tight you might need to create yourself a tool (e.g. from a piece of sheet metal) that will fit into both slots.

Thanks, I got that all sorted out. Now I've had to pull off the entire assembly to get to the back of the aperture blades, and I'm trying to pull out the retaining ring around the rear lens. It looks like it's the same deal, just takes a but of finesse...
