What are some good ones, please? I'll be using manual-focus 35mm.

The instruction booklet for the camera is the best start. For theory Langford's Basic and Advanced Photography are required reading, and available for next to nothing on the used market. For inspiration the Magnum contact sheets book is excellent.

"The Camera Book" is a good one. I saw one at Mr. Cad (London) another day.
"The Encyclopaedia of Photography" is another one.
You might find similar to these in the USA.

Around here John Hedgecoe's "Manual of Photography" is rather legendary. I've learned a lot from that book.

Did you mean books about table-top (still life, macro, etc.) photography?

"Lighting for Still Life" by Steve Bavister. Samples with lighting diagrams used.
Not really applicable for simple setups though.

Really nice shots though.
