I've heard that T10 bulbs are replacing the T12's. Have others heard the same? Can one make a good UV source with T10's? Has anyone tried this?

I centered T12's in my source at 1.75", but the T10's are thinner. By spacing T10's closer together, I wonder if one could achieve a more intense light?

Also, does the choice between T10's and T12's affect ballast availability? Are there good electronic ballasts available for T10's?

Yet another question on UV sources. But, I reviewed many APUG threads and found no information on the use of T10's.

First, it may be true that T10 bulbs are replacing T12. However, there are still plenty of T12 bulbs and ballast around if that is what you know and want.

If you want to use T10 bulbs, for whatever reason, they will work fine. In theory you should be able to get slightly more radiation per surface area to be covered from the T10 bulbs, but the gain would be at best minimal, and certainly no reason in itself to choose this size.
