My google-fu seems to be failing me on this simple question. I'm considering the purchase of a used lens in T-mount and wondering if I'll be able to use it on my FM2n and/or FE. If the lens were close to me I could just try it on the bodies, but it's not, and I don't really want the hassle of shipping it back if it doesn't fit.
The T-mount is a most basic mount, quite similar to a basic M42 mount. However the T-mount has a different thread pitch and the repective lenses are built that short, that a adapter can be used between camera body and T-mount, which is is just the idea behind the T-mount.
As indicated, a T-mound just fixes the lens to the camera, without any operation couplings.
The T-mount was developed long before Nikon introduced AI coupling, so my concern is whether the T-mount will interfere with the AI coupling tab. On the Nikon FE and FM it's possible to move the tab out of the way to work with non-AI lenses, so I suspect a T-mount lens should have no trouble on the FE, but I'm more wondering about my FM2n, which is AI-only. I understand that I'll have to do stop-down metering in both cases.
Technically speaking the T-mount will not interfere with anything, as it does not get in contact with the camera.
But the respective adapter does.
If an early adapter would interfere with a coupling, a upgraded adapter would have to be used. I do not see an issue here. But I am rather ignorant on Nikon mount details; maybe someone makes me wiser.
