Tim Rudman's toning book describes a pleasing home brew selenium toner mixed with selenium powder, which is hard to come by and not so great to work with. However, I can order "selenium shot". Is this equivalent, and has anyone worked with this and have any comments?

Thanks!

If "selenium shot" is elemental selenium in a different grain size, it should work but, I'm guessing here, will take ages to dissolve. It could be ground to a fine powder, but the dust is apparently to be avoided. Can the supplier of this selenium shot give you some info about what it is? Even here at the end of the Earth (Australia) selenium powder can be bought from several suppliers. I have some but haven't yet got around to boiling it up.

Yes, I tried to order form a supplier in Australia but they wouldn't ship internationally. I'll check with the shot supplier about how to disolve it.

Selenium dust is quite toxic. I would not mess with it.
But, if you're intersted, check out mercury toners too.

Mercury is definitely in a different, much worse category. Can you imagine plastic bottles everywhere of "Kodak Rapid Mercury Toner"?
