(Synchro)Compur size 0 - how does one know?

Coming weekend we'll be out treasure hunting on an old-fashioned camera fair. One of the things on our wish list is a shutter for our G-Claron 150mm. The size should be Copal 0/ Compur 0. Now with Copal shutters, the size is clearly visible on the shutter itself, but not so with many Compur shutters. How can you discreetly identify if the sticky-but-still-okay Synchro-Compur sitting on that cheap old folding camera is the right size without having to unscrew the darn thing in front of a slowly maddening stand holder?

A #0 goes to 1/500. A #1 goes to 1/400. So that's one thing. The front opening of a #0 is 29mm I don't know what a #00 is but it'll be smaller.

Discrimination by shutter speed, hadn't thought of that before. Thanks for the tip.

Won't be able to measure front openings without taking lens elements out of the shutter and I don't know if sellers are too happy about visitors taking their wares apart. I mean, we try to look poor yet trustworthy and knowledgable and all that, but it's not always convincing enough....

On the old folders, the obsolete "00" size is also quite common, so be sure to check that too. The outer diameter might be a good quide, check here:

No luck on the fair in the Synchro Compur department. But now we, skeapskates that we are, have discoverd that the 150 G-Claron can be mounted in an old Pronto shutter. For the time being this is a can-do solution. The Pronto offers very little choice in times, but so does the Prontor Press. At least now we have an iris that is lots better than the crude one with the five iris blades (that cause pentagon-shaped bokeh-horror) the lens came in. I'm confident a better shutter will fall in our lap the day we stop looking for one....as always.
