Can someone tell me if it is possible to transplant a Color Skopar 50 mm 1:3.5 lens from a Vito B to a Vito II camera ? Are the external dimensions identical ? Has this been done ?
Thank you for opinions, sugestions and experiences.
In theory it should be possible, but in practice you'd have to take careful measurements to properly collimate the lens to the new body. There may also be differences in the mounting as well. I'm assuming you're talking about the lens only and not the whole shutter assembly; if the latter, you eliminate some problems but open up others. The short answer is that is likely can be done, but getting it right may be tedious and more complicated than it seems.
You might run into trouble if one is considerably older than the other. I got an old shabby Inos with a frozen 105/4.5 Skopar in Compur; tried to graft a loose 105/3.5 color-Skopar in Compur_Rapid to it. After getting the front standard reamed out for the wider throat of the C-S, I discovered that the lenses were different thicknesses and that the C_S therefore would not focus without even more surgery. Of course, blinded by name similarity, I forgot to measure before I started; at least do that much before you try.
