Hi everyone, I'm new here but I figured this would be the place to discuss this.

For a while I've been reading about people swapping Canon AE-1P focusing screens into Canon A-1s for the laser matte surface and larger focusing aid.

Tonight I was disassembling one of my dead T70s for parts when i got to the focusing screen and figured i'd compare size to the oil stained screen of my A-1 and was surprised they appeared to be the same size!
Well, stupid is as stupid does and (carefully) in it went. The frame is pressing it up with about the same force as the original stained screen and infinity focus seems to be retained when testing by pointing it at some brightly lit towers 700 meters away. Metering is still spot on compared to my still working T70.

The only downside i see so far are two tiny marks in the outermost left side of the screen where normally some indicators were on the T70, though this doesnt disturb me as they are on the extreme edge and will not show up in any photos.

I will shoot a test roll tomorrow when it's light to see if focusing is still truly accurate. Did anyone else ever do this swap? Or am i just being silly now?

Attached are two photos taken through the viewfinder with the new screen.

Welcome aboard!
That's quite interesting; please keep us updated on whether the focus ends up OK. Btw, I usually test that without film by placing a ground glass on the film plane and then use bulb mode to compare the viewfinder focus with the film plane focus.
