Guessing the octane rating was higher as well for the 10.5 to 1 crowd.

i can do you one betterwhen i was a kid it was 25 cents a gallon and then there were price wars and it would drop to 19 cents.

Ann is correct. And there used to be an apparently constant price war along I-55 in SE Missouri. I think the lowest I ever saw there was about 17 cents, probably back in the late 1960's.

Please believe that I was in no way disagreeing with you. Ann's observation just brought back fond memories of really low gas prices, even for the 1960's. No comment on the "age" matter!
